Halla El-Ahmad: I graduated from York University, Toronto - Canada in 2004 with a BA in Political Science. Upon graduation, I worked with Amnesty International in London (UK) as a Junior Campaigner with the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign as well as with the Individuals at Risk Program as a Refugee Caseworker Assistant. I later moved to New York where I also joined the USA branch of AI and worked as a Research Assistant with the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign researching case studies and reports on domestic violence within the Native American communities in the U.S. In 2010 I decided to permanently move to Lebanon because i felt a strong need to share the skills i acquired while studying and working in the West with humanitarian organizations in Lebanon. Presently, I work as a De-mining Operations and Community Liaison Assistant with Handicap International’s de-mining program in North Lebanon (Toula, Batroun). Being a humanitarian activist has always been a passion of mine and a huge part of my life. It is a blessing for me to have the opportunity to be a part of positive change in my country, helping to clear up Lebanon’s beautiful villages one landmine at a time.
